5 Road Trips to Take by Car from Casablanca

Casablanca is an excellent starting point for exploring Morocco by car. Here are 5 routes you can do in a day or a weekend with your rental car.

Road trip by car from Casablanca, Morocco

1. El Jadida — the Portuguese city (1h drive)

Just 100 km south of Casablanca, El Jadida charms visitors with its Portuguese cistern and ramparts facing the Atlantic. A perfect half-day trip, easily done in an economy city car.

2. Oualidia — the lagoon and the oysters (1h30 drive)

A little further on, Oualidia offers a calm lagoon lined with beaches, famous for its fresh oysters. About 140 km from Casablanca — perfect for a seaside lunch.

3. Rabat — the capital, 1h away

Morocco’s administrative capital is less than 90 km away, on a fast motorway. The Mohammed V Mausoleum, the Kasbah of the Udayas, and the medina are well worth a full day.

4. Marrakech — the red city (2h30 drive)

About 240 km separate Casablanca from Marrakech, on a motorway in very good condition. It’s the classic weekend trip, with the option to continue on to the Atlas Mountains or Essaouira.

5. Chefchaouen — the blue city (4h30 drive)

More ambitious but beautiful: count around 4h30 to reach Chefchaouen, perched in the Rif mountains. Best spread over 2-3 days, with a possible stop in Rabat or Tangier.

Before you hit the road

  • Make sure your rental includes unlimited mileage — essential for these trips.
  • An up-to-date GPS with the full map of Morocco avoids surprises in rural areas.
  • Fill up before long drives: petrol stations are scarce on some mountain stretches.

All our rental cars come with an up-to-date GPS covering the whole of Morocco, and include unlimited mileage — no extra charge, whatever the distance.

What Documents Do You Need to Rent a Car in Casablanca?

Renting a car in Casablanca is simple, as long as you arrive with the right documents. Here’s the complete list to avoid any surprises when picking up your vehicle, whether you’re a Moroccan resident or a foreign visitor.

1. A valid ID

  • Moroccan residents: a valid national ID card (CNI).
  • Non-residents and foreigners: a valid passport.

2. A driving licence held for at least 2 years

The original driving licence must have been held for at least 2 years. International licences are accepted, as are European, American and Canadian licences, usually without needing a translation.

3. The minimum age requirement

The main driver must be at least 22 years old. Some premium vehicle categories may require a higher minimum age — check with the agency when booking.

4. A payment method for the deposit

A credit card in the main driver’s name is generally required for the security deposit (insurance deductible), even if the rental itself is paid in cash. The deposit amount is usually equal to 10% of the vehicle’s value.

Good to know before booking

  • Prepare a digital copy (photo or scan) of your ID and licence — this speeds up pickup considerably, especially at the airport.
  • Make sure your licence is clearly readable and undamaged.
  • If several people will be driving during your trip, each additional driver must present the same documents.

At AidoCar, you can send your documents directly on WhatsApp before you arrive: your contract will be ready and pickup takes only a few minutes, at our Maârif agency or directly at Mohammed V Airport.
